Free Speech Kills?

Wednesday, January 29th, 2003

I hadn’t really thought too much about the deaths caused by free speach in the 20th century.
But I did find out that I’m hanging with a really dangerous crowd.
(I love this guys work!)

The Bad American

Wednesday, January 29th, 2003

A new George Carlin piece has been added to the articles section, The Bad American. Amen, George!

If you’re not paranoid…

Wednesday, January 29th, 2003

I know I’ve said it at least once here and hundreds of times in conversation. They really are out to get us, little by little, one small bite at a time. We know this, we shout this from the rooftops. They call us paranoid and irrational, radicals and extremists. But the adadge is all […]

Insurance Hijinks

Wednesday, January 29th, 2003

A couple of weeks ago a woman rearended my wife because she was in a hurry to beat oncoming traffic in a left turn, and my wife wasn’t. The damage was mild, a cracked bumper and chipped paint. Initially the woman asked to pay for the cost of repair but sent it to her […]

Toward making all American’s Felons

Wednesday, January 29th, 2003

The latest issue of the Shotgun News has an excellent overview of current laws governing semi-automatic rifles and how easily an innocent mistake could land the unwary rifle owner in prison with a Felony. Even with “grandfathered” rifles.

The especially odious Crime Bill of 1994 contains provisions that are so bent that something so simple as […]

Coming Soon….

Tuesday, January 28th, 2003

A new book will hopefully hit the shelves soon. From the web page:

Enemies Foreign and Domestic is about the conflict between two world views that co-exist within the United States today. One side believes that gun rights are a nuisance and an anachronism, and that firearms should be heavily regulated and even forbidden just as […]

Valor Verdict Overturned!

Tuesday, January 28th, 2003

It doesn’t happen very often in our “Justice” system, so the exceptions like this are worth rejoicing over.

State Of The Union

Tuesday, January 28th, 2003

The President has been accused of not being “presidential”. But that is exactly how the President came across tonight in his State Of The Union address. The President was very clearly The President in the first half of his address. And clearly the Commander In Chief in the second. The distinctions were clear for […]

War Between The States - Historic Fact vs Popular Myth

Saturday, January 25th, 2003

I don’t know how many times over the years I’ve challenged peoples notion that the War Between the States had little to do with slavery. I know this historical misconception will never be fully washed away from our pathetic, politically correct public education system. But this short article brings the thoughts and actions of […]

ARMED PILOT PROGRESS ALERT

Tuesday, January 21st, 2003

From our fiends at Airline Pilots’ Security Alliance:
January 20, 2003
APSA has been credited with successfully ushering armed pilot
legislation through Congress. However, as has been said, “The
devil is in the details.” APSA is now working with the
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to implement a solid
armed pilot program.

The TSA is charged with implementing the law - […]

Looney Clooney

Monday, January 20th, 2003

Anyone who would make the joke “Charlton Heston announced again today that he is suffering from Alzheimer’s”, and when questioned about it reply “I don’t care. Charlton Heston is the head of the National Rifle Association. He deserves whatever anyone says about him.” is the same ignorant biggot he accuses others of being.
But […]

A Poem and Reminders

Sunday, January 19th, 2003

“So I sit and write and ponder, while the house is deaf and dumb,
Seeing visions “over yonder” of the war I know must come.
In the corner – not a vision – but a sign for coming days
Stand a box of ammunition and a rifle in green baize.
And in this, the living present, let the word […]

The “D.C. Sniper” Lawsuit

Sunday, January 19th, 2003

Someone was thoughtful enough to pass along this article from the NRA concerning the misguided attempts of the “D.C. Sniper” victims to sue the manufacturer of the rifle used. The notion that Bushmaster is responsible for the actions of these criminals is beyond insane. Manufacturers such as Bushmaster are highly regulated and can only sell […]

Goodbye Col. Troutman

Saturday, January 18th, 2003

“Richard Crenna, the Emmy award-winning character actor who starred as a lovesick teenager on Our Miss Brooks and Sylvester Stallone’s Green Beret mentor in the Rambo films, has died. He was 76.”

Warning: Indiana Legislation 2003

Saturday, January 18th, 2003

Here is a rather noxious piece of legislation as our late Christmas present from Indiana’s own Vernon Smith (HB1011). Rep. Smith’s ineptitude on the subject is obvious, though. Quote:

” Ban on assault weapons. Provides that the manufacture, importation, sale, or possession of ammunition for a machine gun, an automatic weapon, or a semiautomatic […]

Anti-War != Pro Peace/Freedom

Saturday, January 18th, 2003

With the talk of war with Iraq the peace protestors are out in full force. But there is a lot that the rank and file protestors don’t know about how they’re being used and what they’re really supporting.
In response to war never being the answer here is an excellent case-in-point that dispells […]

Definitions

Thursday, January 16th, 2003

O.K., so maybe I’m not sure about “viri”, but I sure know the definition of hypocrite and hypocrisy.

Virii Galore!

Wednesday, January 15th, 2003

I’m sitting here looking though email that is automatically filtered by our mail server. One of the filters I’ve recently setup dumps email containing the Yaha virus into my virus folder along with Sircam, Nimda and assorted other baddies. 171 in 4 days. So now I have 171 virii in my mailbox.
Or, is that […]

Dynamic HTML

Wednesday, January 15th, 2003

What a work. This is the second edition and is close to twice the size of the first edition. Not only is the reference more up to date but there seems to be quite a bit more instructional information, not only on how to use DHTML (DOM, CSS, HTML & Javascript) but some nice […]

Bravo Bro!

Wednesday, January 15th, 2003

I have just received word from my Bro in Wisconsin, he bought a house! Excellent!

Mandrake

Wednesday, January 15th, 2003

Red Hat, Debian, Slackware SuSE, Turbo, Caldara, Mandrake: I’ve used them all at one time or another. And as each grows up a bit more, focuses change here and there, and my own tastes and needs change. I love them all, but, for the last couple of years Mandrake has been my flavor of choice […]

Daily Dump

Tuesday, January 14th, 2003

Not much this evening. But what there is, is excellent. First is a review of David Frum’s new book on President Bush. I have heard Mr. Frum speak on some of what is in his book and about some of his personal experiences with the President. It is on my reading wish list, for sure.
There […]

Book Pics

Tuesday, January 14th, 2003

Finally found the camera to shoot a couple of pics of the destroyed volume of Dynamic HTML. Here is an overview of the destruction. Note there are still a few leaves and twigs mixed in from the flower bed where I recovered the remains. This is a closer view of the […]

The Daily Dump

Monday, January 13th, 2003

Several interesting things floating around today, a good day as far as Mondays go. So no rants, just some quick quips that caught my attention.

The more than amicable folks at Amazon shipped a replacement for the destroyed copy. Price and convenience brought me to Amazon, customer service will keep me.
A couple of editorials in […]

Amazon to the rescue!

Monday, January 13th, 2003

The reaction I received from Amazon.com over the problem with the delivery is nothing short of astounding. Even though the destruction of the book was due to no problem from Amazon’s end they are going to replace it anyway. Now that is customer service!
Of course, I’m having the replacement sent to the office instead….
