Toward making all American’s Felons
The latest issue of the Shotgun News has an excellent overview of current laws governing semi-automatic rifles and how easily an innocent mistake could land the unwary rifle owner in prison with a Felony. Even with “grandfathered” rifles.
The especially odious Crime Bill of 1994 contains provisions that are so bent that something so simple as changing a rifles plastic stock to wood stocks or owning a pre-1994 rifle without a sales receipt with the serial number can land collectors and shooters a longer prison term than a rapist.
The 1994 bill pushed by former President Bill Clinton and passed in the Senate by one vote has a built in Sunset provision that has the law expiring in 2004. The Congress and the Senate must fully pass this bill again, and either get the President’s signature or obtain a 2/3rds majority, for it to remain in force as law.
Though still almost 2 years away from sunset, we cannot sit on our hands until the renewal legislation is introduced. The time is now to begin educating our elected representitives of the injustice and idiocy of this legislation. Get busy!
And remember, it isn’t about guns.
