DSL Here I come!

I’m sitting in my office reading the news, er, updating the servers… and I get a “Call-ID Blocked” call to my cell phone. I don’t know about the rest of you but I do not answer those calls. About 30 seconds after ignoring the call my office phone also rings, again no caller ID. After a moments hesitation I figure If the caller has both my cellular and office number I guess it’s likely a legit call so answer.

It’s my telephone company calling: “You have called us several times to see if you could get DSL; asked that we notify you if it became available; are you still interested?”

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did you get that?

So a 768kb line is on order I told to expect installtion to be completed by the 19th. Unfortunately a static address would have doubled the price ($99.95 instead of $49.95) so I’ll just continue to survive with DynDNS‘s service. The modem and hook-up is free as long as I agree to 18 months.. shouldn’t be a problem since 1) I’ve been here 12 years on their phone and internet service, 2) no one else in their right mind is going to offer DSL out here in the sticks with a 10-user-per-DSLAM-subscriber ratio.
