Why School Vouchers Are Evil
School vouchers and charter schools (hereby simply “vouchers”) are being “sold” and put into place in many cities and municipalities. On the surface they seem an answer to the almost totalitarian stranglehold the NEA and Dept. of Eduction have on public education in America today.
But public education is in such shambles the snake-oil politicians have had an easy time coercing concerned parents into accepting vouchers as the solution. (Unconcerned parents are against vouchers because vouchers would force those parents to actually make a decision and take part in the education of their children, but that’s for another article). But the ultimate goal of voucher systems is to retain control; vouchers are the answer for the NEA and politicians despite their protestations to the contrary. Not only do they retain control of the huge amount of money, up to $10k+ per kid per year in some areas, but the educational requirements. By accepting vouchers parents are agreeing to teach how and what the locality, county, town or city deems appropriate plus anything those localities agreed to in order to get Federal education funds from the Department of Education.
Why is this all important? (For shame if you don’t already get it!) The most successful private schooling methods, private schools and home schooling are built around Christian principles (and other unsavory topics as Citizenship, American history, monoculteralism, etc). By accepting vouchers and the baggage they bring we in America will see these educational options barred from using religious materials. I’m sure the ACLU is just waiting to pounce on this obvious violation of the “separation of church and state”.
