50 First Dates

I seldom write much about movies, good or bad, and I’m a huge fan of movies though not necessarily of most new releases as I’m a firm believer that Hollywood has sold out their audiences. But 50 First Dates (Adam Sandler & Drew Berrymore) was a film that so illustrates my complaint with Hollywood today.

The film has a great story, is very well directed with breath taking scenery and well acted. I thought Drew Berrymore did an excellent job (akin to her Ever After performance) and Sean Aston very successfully broke out of the Hobit role we all know him from in Lord of the Rings. And even Adam Sandler (who I typically despise) was a believable character.

But Adam Sandler is also part of my biggest complaint about this movie. The amount of juvenile humor really kills this movie for anyone above 30-somethings and that is a shame. The movie didn’t need the potty humor to be funny or the endearing story that it is.

50 First Dates may ultimately make it’s way into the modern romatic comedy classics category but without Sandler’s humor dragging down the target age group it could have been in that category at it’s debut.
