Repubs off Track
While I agree with little Wallace-Wells says in “Party Down” he does make some points, though wrong, that we must take note of. A lot of it is spun perceptions from one party to another but his overall thesis that the centrist Republicans are off track from the American mainstream isn’t wrong, just not as far off track as the radical Stalinistic elements that have take over the Democrat party. Wallace-Wells quotes a conservative friend’s lament over the Medicare bill:
“In 15 years, the whole federal budget blows up because of Medicare, this ridiculous prescription-drug benefit that no one even likes, our taxes go through the roof, and the economy breaks down. And this time, it’s gonna be our fault.”
He’s right except I doubt it will take 15 years and whole Medicare drug thing is a boondoggle meant to remove the issue from the table. I don’t know who advised the President over this but he or she should loose their job in the most excurciating way possible.
At the same time I would not brook such talk from the Democrats who only opposed the Medicare package because it didn’t spend enough and carried means testing on what it did spend. They also opposed the package because it contained many small steps to put the healthcare purse strings back in the hand of the consumer by further opening medical savings accounts to the public.
There are many other issues covered in the article and he does make the point that the Repubs are sliding to the center. Though that really isn’t the point he intends to make and it’s not news to those of us are are first conservatives and Republicans second.
