OSS Solaris trump Linux? Not.

While some in the business world may think so they forget that the actual product is only part of the equation. If it were all about the product Microsoft would hold 4th fiddle at best.

No Solaris will likely remain the dominion only of SPARC hardware. It’s never been a strong player in the x86 market which was once dominated by SCO and now Linux and the BSD family of operating systems.

And the larger part of the problem is Sun themselves. After the number of false starts and about-faces they’ve made in the open source arena the community is not likely to greet them any better than a smile and guarded suspicion.
