.Net to PHP
Brian Bailey has posted a thoughtful entry on why they are switching from .Net to PHP from a business viewpoint. It’s an interesting and logical read fit to print and had your CIO.
One thing I will point out is this:
“It’s all a matter of trust. If you don’t trust your developer to choose the right environment, then how can you trust him to build the best application?”
This is only more or less true depending. Open Source developers who have a passion for writing code tend to know more languages, more fluently, than those who write code because the job comes with a good paycheck. Unfortunately it is not uncommon to find that many PHP developers fall into this same category with Java and .Net programmers because many PHP programmers are more web designers with programming knowledge.
