Ford to write a report on global warming
I can’t think of a better reason to buy a Ford.
“Ford does nice reports, but they’re still suing California, lobbying against higher federal mileage standards and their new vehicles still create more global warming pollution than any major automaker,” said Russell Long, director of the Bluewater Network.
My last two have been Fords and have done very well for me and I’m a normally Chevy kind of guy. Even bought the wife a Grand Prix recently.
The Sierra Club also has targeted Ford’s environmental record, particularly after the company decided in 2003 to back off a promised improvement in fuel efficiency. On Thursday, the Sierra Club launched a new campaign to enlist Ford dealers in the effort to make the company’s vehicles more environmentally friendly.
My 2002 Taurus with the V6 gets 27mpg. I drive almost 140 miles a day, about a third of that at 80mph, and still get that kind of mileage. Would I like it to be better? Absolutely. Do I think the government should force it down their throats? No.
But as much as I may disagree with the so-called “science” behind their doomsaying the Enviro’s are sort of coming at this the right way, by putting their money where their mouth is and buying enough stock in the company to have a sway. Though I do seriously wonder if the stock holders represented truely know what is being done in their behalf….
