Chirac plots to cross the French People
The blow to Chirac of his own countrymen shooting down the E.U. constitution is so much worse than anything we (the United States) could ever do to him, politically. Unfortunately for the French people it appears Chirac is everything we thought he was (and that’s really bad) as witnessed by the fact he is plotting to disregard his countrymen’s ‘non’ vote.
Another interesting twist is that the amendments to the E.U. constitution required to make it palatable to the French would turn it unacceptable to the Brits.
Does that mean the French voted ‘non’ not because adoption of the E.U. constitution gives away too much French soverignty but because they feel it dosn’t give away enough?
Oh well, it’s the French. We’re not suppose to understand their “logic”. And as these issues are taking the whole thing in the wrong direction the media seems to be pushing the actual issues the French people object to under the rug.
