Cringely: Apple + Intel
In his usual fashion Cringely puts the screws to Apple over the announced switch to Intel processors. He makes some well thought out points (this is Cringly, afterall).
The only place I tend to disagree is on DRM. It is pretty easy to dream up how Intel can use DRM to squish AMDs sales by Apple’s iTunes requiring Intel’s DRM technology.
Someone told me last week that Apple would be stupid to switch off the much faster IBM Power PC processors because they are simply better. He’s right that it’s a superior processsor. But I had to attribute this ignorant statement to his youth as being “better” is seldom the path to happy shareholders and high trading values.
Besides while the PPC is faster than the Intel CISC processors I don’t see a 3.6 Ghz Intel browsing the interest that much more slowly.
