Man grabs girl’s arm – now he’s a sex offender
How did we go from protecting children from predators to protecting them from lectures? The defendant’s attorney nailed my concern:
Frederick Cohn, Barnaby’s attorney, told the Chicago Sun-Times. “If you see a 15-year-old beating up your 8-year-old and you grab that kid’s hand and are found guilty of unlawful restraint, do you now have to register as a sex offender?”
Apparently the answer to that is yes. It appears the real problem is the unlawful restraint of a minor law all falls under sex offense statutes.
Imagine 30 years ago if they arrested every neighborhood father that grabbed one of the neighborhood kids by the ear and dragged them to their parents home? Most of them would currently be registered as sex offenders in Illinios.
And before someone chastises me for “not wanting to protect the children” my complaint is the lack of sanity during the application of the law and the broad application of it for the defense of brats and their parents.
