Trebuchets

Monday, July 11th, 2005

Trebuchets are really cool machines. Too bad I don’t have anywhere to “plink” with one of any size. Maybe I’ll get a desktop model to launch things at people daring to enter my office. But the one that really got my attention is the floating arm trebuchet aka FAT.

Two-thirds Believe In Creation

Monday, July 11th, 2005

It is amusing that the fact that Nearly Two-thirds of U.S. Adults Believe Human Beings Were Created by God is being used by those calling themselves “progressive” as proof that natural selection favors the stupid rather than the strong.
I have to admit I’m beginning to agree with them but only because the […]

Fake Research

Monday, July 11th, 2005

And people wonder why some of us simply don’t trust “science” anymore. Like most other things in our daily lives “science” has been corrupted by the politics of those holding the purse strings, whether academic, government or corporate.

9/11 - The Movie

Monday, July 11th, 2005

I wondered how long it would take before someone made a 9/11 movie. It was my guess that it would take a few years specifically so that the “incident” would fade a bit from peoples memories, giving the producer/director more latitude with their propaganda. I think 4 years is proving to be more […]

Wyoming Webcams

Sunday, July 10th, 2005

Found an excellent list of Wyoming webcams. If you remember the movie Shane the Blacktail Butte cam is, I’ve been told, where the ranch was located. Other listed cams include 3 for Jackson Hole, Mammoth hot springs and even Old Faithful. Without counting there is probably 40 cams listed. Beautiful scenery.

“The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant: It’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.”
“Of the four wars in my lifetime […]

The Exercise o f Power

Saturday, July 9th, 2005

“The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not sufficient warrant.” — John Stuart Mill, On Liberty (1859)

The Doomsday Provision

Saturday, July 9th, 2005

“The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed — where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However improbable these contingencies […]

Clinton on Personal Freedoms

Saturday, July 9th, 2005

“If the personal freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution inhibit the government’s ability to govern the people, we should look to limit those guarantees.” -President Bill Clinton, August 12, 1993

Saturday, July 9th, 2005

“False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; what would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils, except destruction. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such […]

Einstein’s Pacisfism

Tuesday, July 5th, 2005

“I didn’t write that I was an absolute pacifist but that I have always been a convinced pacifist. That means there are circumstances in which in my opinion it is necessary to use force. Such a case would be when I face an opponent whose unconditional aim is to destroy me and my people.” […]

CAFTA Votes

Saturday, July 2nd, 2005

The roll call on the CAFTA vote is rather interesting. Unlike NAFTA I’m one that supports CAFTA mainly because the provisions that allow the small central American nations to import tarrif free are already in place. What CAFTA provides is access to those, granted small, markets which currently charge tarrifs on our goods coming in. […]

Man grabs girl’s arm - now he’s a sex offender

Saturday, July 2nd, 2005

How did we go from protecting children from predators to protecting them from lectures? The defendant’s attorney nailed my concern:
Frederick Cohn, Barnaby’s attorney, told the Chicago Sun-Times. “If you see a 15-year-old beating up your 8-year-old and you grab that kid’s hand and are found guilty of unlawful restraint, do you now have to […]
