Taurus 605

I finally broke down and bought a 357 Magnum snubbie. I considered several including the Ruger SP-101, the 3″ GP100, 3″ S&W 66, and various Taurus designs. The one I really wanted was the 3″ blued GP100 I saw at the 1500. The S&W 66 round butt was close but for some odd reason I like the GP100 better. Neither fit my needs though as neither are ankle guns. Weight and overall size was a top consideration along with enough firepower. My actual first choice for this purpose, another SP101, was eased out by the Taurus 605 with slightly tighter dimensions, a couple ounces lighter and $100 less coinage.
The impetus for this was easier daily carry. As it is now the Kimber sits in a drawer all day, basically only coming and going with me. And during the summer months constantly wearing a windbreaker has some drawbacks, the main one being the obviousness. There is nothing like wearing a jacket on a 90 degree day to profile yourself. But always wearing slacks and an oxford doesn’t leave much else for cover than a sports coat. And if I were to show up at the office in a sports coat they’d think someone died. So something smaller was in order, but something with enough horse power I wouldn’t feel under-gunned. A .357 Magnum snubbie seemed to fit the need nicely and hopefully it will.

Ah , should have considered the new scandium Smith’s , they are only about $650 from Bob. I wonder if they really sell those things.

Bob said the scandium Smiths were the most abusive handguns he’d ever fired. Besides, wouldn’t afford a $650 snubbie, too much.
