More on Alito

Alito has a record of steady conservatism, reputation for civility

Aron pointed out that Alito appears to have a restrictive view of abortion rights and said that his dissent in a 1997 case, in which he argued that Congress did not have the power to restrict machine gun sales under the Constitution’s Commerce Clause, suggests a limited view of the legislature’s power to remedy social ills.

If the “Alliance for Justice” thinks Alito “places many of our rights in jeopardy” then maybe he is the right choice. Was it a ploy, nominating Miers to force the conservative ground swell that ultimately caused her to withdrawl? We’ll likely never know and I’m leary to give that much forethought to the Administration.
