Oracle has acquired another open source company, this time Sleepycat, the commercial side of Berkley DB used by many open source projects across a wide range of applications.
The acquisition means customers have access to a fast, open-source database at low cost and with “enterprise-class support,” Oracle said.
Except you don’t have to buy them to offer […]

It looks like ABC’s John Stossel has touched a nerve. Good for him.

Oh it’s all a big scandal that Cheney accidentally shot a fellow hunter though by the account I read the fault lay as much on the fellow shot as the fellow shooting.
But this certainly reinforces my own recent thoughts on compacency, doesn’t it? It also adds emphasis on wearing good shooting glasses. […]

Well, the receiver finish anyway. The Winchester 94 is such a tough cookie to get refinished due to the hardness of the receiver I’ve decided to go the other way and “age” the whole receiver. Since i really like the brown patina of the right side it seemed to make sense. Some spots […]

What happened to the days when the media didn’t broadcast our military intentions to the enemy quite so openly as today? I need to know…. but some things you publish after the fact unless it is your intention to tip our hand.

Take away their guns and they’ll use swords and if you take away the guns from law abiding citizens as well people like this are simply thrown to the wolves.

You’re MS and have a new anti-virus product coming out soon but you’ve not shipped an AV product since DOS 6 days so what do you do? You take the anti-spyware product you bought and are giving away in order to conquor that market and make it target competing anti-virus products. Seems simple enough […]

Bored with Windows, think Linux is too difficult and can’t (won’t) afford a Mac? Then checkout FlyakiteOSX and put a little Aqua in your XP. (Hat tip: Jeff)

It seems the violence from Mexican criminal gangs has gotten so bad along the US side that even the New York Times is reporting on it. Will we get serious about the war that is taking place along our south border before its too late?

It looks like maybe Fance was serious in their threat against terror states with nukes because France is secretly upping the capacity of their own nuclear arsenal. Maybe they plan on using a few.

Looks like installing the new Google Desktop Search might be a bad idea if you have anything private on your computer. I guess it’s evil for the government to secretly spy on us but it’s OK if Google does it.

I’m constantly looking at project tools but seldom find anything too out of the ordinary that I would recommend anyone take a poke at but today I found one over at GanttProject.org that looks and works like the old MRProject (now Planner) and MS Project Lite which is all most people need. The main downside […]

As though their monopoly wasn’t big enough Microsoft is going into the anti-virus business. We’ll see if they ship it with the OS by default which should give the Justice Department pause.

Either icicles are forming on the gates of hades or this is a perverted joke at John Bolton’s expense because anyone who has truely deserved to win in the last few decades has never gotten nominated.
But it is still good to see that there are at least a few people who see the […]

What is in Bush’s $2.7 trillion budget?
I think my favorite jab was from Fark:
Bush to send $2.7 trillion budget to Congress, a large part allocated to printing dictionaries with a new definition for the word “conservative”
The press keeps telling us our President is a “right-wing conservative (religious) zealot” and I keep wishing it […]

Oh yeah… take that Boston Globe! (The Volokh Conspiracy)
Sadly it changes nothing. But I’ll bet the Boston Globe will back McCain’s S2128, too. They might even help him get elected if he keeps talking back to Bush and Her Majesty Hillary keeps forgetting to satiate her special interest soft money donors… er.. […]

And now we know why police don’t have time to find real criminals, they’re too busy protecting exotic fish for PETA. I’m sure the rapist and burglar appreciate this change of enforcement focus.

Nice short on Turban Dick Durbin; Media Blog on National Review Online…. I wonder if John McCain’s S2128 will consider bloggers political intruments and ban any posts for 60 days before an election…. bet Durbin will vote for it.

I have to ask Mr Johnson if he’s only just realizing that the Super Bowl is a sleaze fest or was he out of the room during last years “wardrobe malfunction”? If you’re going to be a fanatic it’s OK to be an NFL fanatic (the root of which is “fan” afterall) because […]

It looks like Big Bird is being downsized. I’m not certain its a bad idea. I mean government is obviously teaching the Nations children with the same methods used to run the country… certainly we’ve no reason to worry.
Besides when did the word “public” come to mean “you will pay for your […]
