Mexican illegals vs. American voters

Tony Blankley hits it out of the park (which tends to be par for him) in today’s Washington Times column Mexican illegals vs. American voters

The Senate is attempting to legislate into the teeth of the will of the American public. The Senate Judiciary Committeemen — and probably a majority of the Senate — are convinced that they know that the American people don’t know what is best for them.

The Repubs want cheap labor (which it isn’t at the societal level) and the Dems want a voter block to replace all the union workers with their houses in the burbs, 2 cars, a boat and a 401K plan who’ve been steadily switching parties for a couple of decades now.

What concerns me are the things the politicos are trying to change supposedly due to the uprising against illegals even though they don’t support stopping the invasion. Two that especially bother me are the sentiments that Posse Comitatus should be recinded or amended to allow troops on the border; and second, a National ID system.

Come on Jerry , get it right , union workers with a 401K ? we would never trade our union pension plan for one of those things , a 401K would mean we would have to pay money in order to retire , hell, we expect the company we work for to pay for our retirement with no cost to us , after all it is truly considered a “benefit” when it is free. These companies are reaping huge profits from the blood, sweat, and tears of the American worker and have the attitude if you don’t like your job find another one , always the easy way out , hell , if most of us wanted another job we wouldn’t be working the one we have now , and then the question comes to mind , would they be in business if they had no employees ? I mean look at Delphi , before they went into bankruptcy they paid over 300 top executives , a bonus , some were 21 MILLION dollars for a one year bonus, then they have the nerve to file bankruptcy ? the judge in that case should be throwing someones ass in jail. I think everyone deserves the right to live where they want , I don’t blame anyone for living in the burbs , I do too , and I would live in the woods if my wife didn’t have to work downtown , I mean who would want to live in the inner city now ? crime goes up every week , gang members are recruiting little kids everyday , no property value. We just want some of the fringe benefits that these execs have been stealing for years , at the workers expense. Now I can’t mention names here , but you know who I work for , they were a no name grocery company , and when Jimmy Hoffa came along organized them into the teamsters they grew HUGE , now they are the second largest grocery chain in the country , but without the union they would most likely not even exist , and now all of a sudden they want the union out of their business.

I know a lot of unions still do pensions. But, there are ones moving away from the traditional union style pensions largely because the union bosses have, for decades, raided these funds and hung their membership out to dry. More recently companies going through bankruptcy are seeking to dump their pension obligations (where they’ve negociated to keep some control of the pension funds to help protect them against union mismanagement) back on the unions and the government via court actions.

So union memberships have been screwed by the union who mismanaged their pensions, then screwed by the employers under the guise of protecting them from the union - who woudln’t want their pension money put into a 401k that they own and neither the employer nor union can touch?

Of course some companies and unions detest losing access to these funds so whip up opposition. And when you get right down to brass tacks this is the same exact thing that is going on with Social Security retirement funds. The Democrats will lose access to the money if it gets put into private accounts.

It’s an erosion of the traditional powerbase that is empowering the employee that the unions, the democrats and even employers feel the employee isn’t smart enough to handle.

As for the bonus thievery I partially agree. I don’t agree that what they did was illegal - unethical in the grand scheme of things, absolutely.

But I also have a car with Delphi parts and I can tell you in all seriousness that the lack of quality is reason #1 that I will probably never buy another GM product. Not because the parts fail but because the same parts have been failing across at least 4 model years that I know of and the problem not only hasn’t been addressed in manufacturing but GM will do nothing to remdiate the problem.
