Friday Travails

Friday, March 24th, 2006

It’s been a great week and today was a good day so on the way home I drop by one of my favorite gunshops to browse for the single action revolver I didn’t buy at the Indy 1500 last weekend. I’ve been talking to the dealer through the week trying to get my hands on [...]

Article II Gun Shop v. Gonzales

Thursday, March 23rd, 2006

An interesting case in Illinois where the Feds revoked the FFL of an gunshop due to problems with record keeping. They appealed the decision and lost. The dissenting remarks are what interested me most. This is especially interesting considering the feedback I’m hearing from multiple shops in the area who think the Feds are on [...]

Badonkadonk Land Cruiser/Tank

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

It looks like Amazon.com is now selling tanks. I don’t know if the product itself is real or not but the “customer feedback” is priceless. ‘ll admit it. Shopping for a personal tank can be a bit daunting. Many times in the past I’ve purchased overpriced, so-called “battle tanks”, then driven them into battle only [...]

Initial Treo Observations & Musings

Monday, March 20th, 2006

After several days with the Palm Treo I have a few observations. I’m still enjoying using it but there are a few negative aspects especially compared to a normal cell phone. Usability as a cell phone: It is no wonder the number of distracted drivers is going through the roof. Unless I’ve made a short [...]

What a tangled Web we weave

Monday, March 20th, 2006

Could it be that where individual and social conscience are failing Google is picking up the slack? I know when I hire I always use Google and other search engines to research the candidate. Typically I’m looking for associations with open source projects and how the candidate acquits his or her self on bulletin boards. [...]

Richard Belzer: I know more about war than troops

Monday, March 20th, 2006

I appears the new tactic in the anti-war movement is that our troops are too stupid to have a positive opinion of the war and that boots on the ground don’t matter, either. And, that only those who reads 20 new papers a day and have graduated from college have opinions that count or are [...]

TIME has a nice piece on Robert Goddard who is considered the father of modern rocketry.

Canadian baby boomers prefer television over sex

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

If ever there was an indicator that a television should never be put a bedroom then this is it.

Mandrake founder Gael Duval Leaves Mandriva

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

Mandriva has fired their founder Gael Duval. I have used Mandrake longer than any other distribution and it is still my favorite despite the 10.x growing pains. It would be a shame if they were to go and destroy what remains of a once excellent and former easy-to-use-desktop king. If they do at least there [...]

Even torn-up credit card applications aren’t safe

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

Since it now sees that Even torn-up credit card applications aren’t safe may I recommend buying a home shredder. What’s funny is that a credit card company called this an “internet prank”, doesn’t seem to get the point that his company issued a credit card on a torn-up and re-taped applicatin. To quote Homer… DOH!
