Dixie Chicks
I’ve basically ignored the Dixie Chicks since before their gaff in 2003 but a short entry on Texas Rainmaker titled Dixie Chicks Learn the Difference Between Censorship and Capitalism is an interesting read.
In the end it comes down to a paraphrased old saw of you have the right to free speech, you don’t have a right to an audience. And when the audience is paying to hear you don’t be surprised if they stop paying to hear something antithetical to their own thoughts. This not only illustrates the intersection of rights and capitalism, but why capitalism is despised by some politcal philosophies .
