Reno Judge: Was it a 5.56 NATO?
OK, this is going to be difficult to say in a delicate and circumspect way but here it goes….
A Judge in Reno is sniped in his office and
“He is conscious and talking with his family,”
First and foremost I hope they 1) nail the assassin’s hide to the courtroom wall, and 2) the judge recovers fully and speedily.
Now let me say that I would wager the weapon and round used were the civilian versions of what our boys are carrying over in the Sandbox. Now think about that statement again:
“He is conscious and talking with his family,”
That ain’t so good when you’re job involves shooting at guys with rags on their heads and AK-47’s aimed at you. But despite the fact that the fast little bullet of the 5.56NATO round zips right through the skinny 3rd world fighters the Powers That Be still determine it is “adequate”. Yep, that’s what I would want in a firefight… an “adequate” round that’s not very good on “slender people”. In typical tripicate fashion the Army solution was to “put two 5.56mm bullets where they will do enough damage”.
Note that I am making a reasonable assumption that the perp used a AR-15 style sporter because it is the rifle de jour in the US. I seriously hope I am wrong, that it was something innocuous like an NEF Handi-Rifle or a Chipmunk (small .22 single shot sized for training a 10 year old) - because anything else and this whole thing will not be about the shooter and the Judge who he shot, but about so-called “evil assault rifles” , “evil sniper rifles” and “high power military ammunition”….
Hopefully, the Judge will recover quickly and he and his family can regain their normal life.
