Kerry knocks Bush on handling of Israel - Lebanon
John Kerry cracks me up. His recent comments in Detroit concerning the Israeli - Lebanon conflict are quite worthy of jeers:
“If I was president, this wouldn’t have happened,” said Kerry
I guess he doesn’t realize that, according to the Arabs, Israel controls the US rather than the other way… I mean, aren’t we the Israeli puppets??? I guess that just depends on who’s saying it and how it fits into their campaign materials.
Anyway, he’d have (tried to) cut off our aid to Israel and let the Arab league over run them in the first year of his presidency. So yeah, from that point of view, Israel wouldn’t be there for these problems to occur. Except, as every country contiguious to Israel has proven no less than 3 times, Israel isn’t that easy to take down.
As the “Israeli war of agression” marches on it is disturbing to see all these reports of “Lebanon civilian casualties” that are really dead terrorists. But where is the reporting of the many hundreds of these Iranian rockets were being fired into Israel from both Lebanon and Gaza in the months leading up to Israel having “had enough” and taking offensive action? It wasnt’ there and inside reports puts the number of rockets fired at over 600 in June alone.
I do have some concerns that Israel will take this too far but such events will take their course. And Israel is a soverign nation born with a perpetual 50+ year PR handicap so they are less prone to listen to outsiders, anyway, and I can’t say as I blame them much for that. But there is a split in Lebanon that over playing this hand could cause to disappear - Christian Lebanon and Syria backed Hezbola in common cause would do the world a disservice. Better Israel take their buffer zone back, the buffer zone they gave back to Lebanon 6 years ago, then change course to “we’ve contained the thugs now how can we help you actually take control of your country again?”
At the same time if I were Lebanon, Syria and Iran I’d be a bit worried specifically because of the Chinese Silk Worm they shot off at the Israeli friggette. That was a 300 foot ship that, with the anti-missile Phalanx defense system turned off ( I’m glad I’m not the swabbie that forgot to flip that switch!), took a direct hit by a cruise missile. And sailed away under her own steam with minimal casualties and damage.
