Criminal “safe zones”
There are now 46 states which offer some sort of concealed carry permits for their citizens. A lot of these are “shall issue” permits which means that unless the individual is a prohibited person and in some cases pass a basic skills course, the State “shall issue” the permit. But in all of these 46 states there are what we refer to as “criminal safe zones”. Normally these zones are created by law, the most ubiquitous being the Federal school zones. But some localities add their own by how a place is used such as sporting events, bars and concerts. It appears criminals in Flori-duh have found another and less likely one though, gun shows.
States with carry permits are certainly hard on criminals and the fewer places they feel they can accost their prey safely the more actively they’re sure to seek out these “criminal safe zones”. Fortunately I live in a state where there are few of these zones which are locally mandated. The biggest culprit that comes to mind is the City of Indianapolis Parks Department which prohibits guns in city and county parks. Which is why we have seen an upswing in crime on the Monon trail.
Yet when the State Department of Natural Resources lifted the ban on permitted people carrying their concealed sidearm into State Parks the frantic scare tactics were amazing. Several months later and we have yet to see the “peace of our State parks destroyed”. Go figure.
Probably why all the criminals moved to the Monon…
