Democrats were quick to raise the possibility that domestic terror laws like the Patriot Act would certainly be misused to target the political opposition. Without going into the whole Clinton era an Arizona Democrat has shown why they’re so aware of the potential abuse by introducing their own law targeting the political opposition. In this case she wants to brand any citizen patroling (the border) for the sake finding illegal activity while armed a domestic terrorist.

An individual or group of individuals commits domestic terrorism if the individual or group of individuals are not affiliated with a local, state or federal law enforcement entity and associate with another individual or group of individuals as an organization, group, corporation or company for the purpose of patrolling to detect alleged illegal activity or to individually patrol for the purpose of detecting alleged illegal activity and if the individual or group of individuals is armed with a firearm or other weapon.

As one would expect from the Democrats the proposed law makes no arrangement for property owners to patrol even their own property looking for illegal activity. So besides her primary objective of stopping the enforcement of the border by civilians (since both parties have effectively neutered the Border Patrol with micromanagement and imprisonment of those who may be so daring as to do their job) this could easily spill over to the discovery of any illegal activities by someone with a concealed carry permit. For example, a homeowner “patroling” for the source of a bump in the night.
