The Empty Holsters on Campus Protest
I think it is a smart way to protest that a licensed individual can carry a firearm into Walmart or down main street but are not allowed to do so while on college campus grounds. In light of Virginia Tech we know that a campus is literally defenseless yet we block those who would voluntarily stand in harms way, if necessary, to stop or at least minimize such attacks.
But the opposition has other ideas. Peter Hamm of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence seems to think that you have to make a choice between your Constitutional rights or an Education:
“You don’t like the fact that you can’t have a gun on your college campus? Drop out of school,” said Peter Hamm, a spokesman for the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence.
Interesting that college campuses hold themselves out as bastions of freedom, witness their First Amendment battle cry anytime some student journalist gets his or her hands smacked for publishing something against a schools policies. As is typical of the Left and Academia, which is largely the same thing, they only protest and feign to protect those rights they like, especially if they can use them against those who disagree with them. Since they’re mostly nancy-boys they don’t want anyone to have rights they’re too cowardly to take up.

Lets not forget that college campus recieves state and federal funding.
How can a school that recieves tax payer funding be allowed to make rules that would contradict state laws ?
This was the issue at hand during a lawsuit filed earlier this year , it was discussed on NRA news and can be found in the archives section.

Unfortunately in many cases there are local ordinances and/or exceptions made in the carry law concerning colleges and concealed carry.
