Cold Weather Gear
After purchasing Nitro Racing’s cold weather gear I finally got a chance to test it in todays weather mix. The good news is that I was plenty warm and toasty where the Nitro gear is concerned. The First Gear gauntlet gloves aren’t as warm as I’d like but my polyprop liners add enough extra warmth to get down into the low 40’s at least. My Danner boots may require some electric socks or insulated boots but have done alright.
The big disappointment today was the helmet. After putting the National Cycle 2-Up windshield on I found my full face HJC buffeted badly over 60 giving me double vision and a horrible headache. Besides the discomfort anything interferes with my vision is highly dangerous so to solve the problem I installed the National Cycle lowers. That was over the summer and I’ve simply not worn the helmet again until today. The up-current buffeting is gone but the top buffeting is still horrible above 60. I found that tightening the strap and using my jaw muscles to hold it tighter helped and using my hand to literally pull the helmet tight fixed the issue. But I can’t ride around with one hand.
