Most of U.S. to have above-normal Dec-Feb temps

It must have really been a slow news day for this totally inane piece to have gotten past the editor or more importantly the logic sensors….

Most of the United States, including the Northeast heating oil market except for Maine, will see above-normal temperatures from December through February, government forecasters predicted Thursday.

Part of me says YAY better chance of riding days! The other part of me feels sympathy for poor Maine who for some reason is going to get left out of this warmer than usual weather pattern. My guess is they have Weather Police at the state line….

But it gets better…

In its 90-day outlook, the National Weather Service said there were equal chances of above-normal and below-normal temperatures in the West, in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, and the northern half of Nevada and California.

Hm… basically it’s not going to be normal but how not-normal they don’t know, it could go either way. I’d wager if you asked any 5th grader what the chances are it will be either hotter or colder (they don’t recognize “normal” since it will be outside their realm of experience) they’re going to say… 50/50…

Oh but there is more….

The agency projected below-normal precipitation in much of the southern half of the United States in a large area stretching from Virginia down through Georgia and across through Texas to California.

Above-normal precipitation was forecast for the Pacific Northwest and for a large area from the Great Lakes down to northern Alabama and Mississippi from December through February.

They could really have just said its a safe bet to expect the same as the last 3 months….
