Bye-Bye cubicles, Hello open office spaces
I cannot express how much I like the open office spaces concept of office organization and seating. Having worked in both environs the benefits of an open office far outweigh the pros of individual offices, even at a board room level.
The first time I read of this was in Michael Bloombergs autobiography many years ago. Politically I couldn’t care less for Bloomberg’s views but this is one of his ideas on how to run a business that really sank in with me. And as I’ve moved around the tech sector over the years the more I believe in this concept.
Granted there are steps necessary to make such a layout work just as there are contingencies we deal with when stuffing our people in cubicles. And there are some industries that don’t accommodate the open well especially in businesses dealing with confidential consultations or noisy call centers.
