Oregon man’s property ransacked after Craigslist hoax
This type of thing seems to be becoming more and more common, someone lists someone else’s house as open to public picking over and an innocent man gets his property ransacked. How do you stop things like this? First, throw anyone who participates in jail. Second, disallow any such ads or require the owner be present. Third, USE YOUR FREAKING BRAINS PEOPLE! Geesh.. how stupid have we become that “I found it on the Internet” trumps the landowner physically standing there? Of course greed is another culprit and what prevented the people from paying attention to the owner - they were certainly afraid someone was trying to put something over on them so they could have it all to themselves.
But what makes this even more serious than the wanton theft and destruction is one of these days some idiot is going to pull one of these stunts in a Castle Doctrine state and someone is going to die. Seems a pity to die over a free coffee table or sofa but my money says it is going to happen and it probably won’t be long.
