Obama Campaign Starts on Palin

The Obama Campaign must HATE McCain’s choice of Palin so I expect the attacks to be relentless for fear of people actually having time to investigate their claims against her.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s campaign on Friday blasted his Republican rival’s choice of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as a running-mate, highlighting her “zero” foreign policy experience.

Not Zero, but held mostly to trade missions. Which beats Obama’s actual zero even on those…

Still, as a mother of 5 children, one actively serving in Iraq, Palin obviously has the diplomatic, economic and administrative skills needed to handle the job at hand. Openly stating otherwise Obama’s campaign runs a huge risk of alienating not only the Hillary vote, but every mother and housewife in America who knows the absolute truth of Palin’s ability.

“Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency,” Obama spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement.

Saying it twice to reinforce.. What they don’t want you to consider is Palin’s credentials are great for a VP, less so for a Prez. Yet Obama does not even have the experience of running a large town for 4 years and a state for 2. So while knocking her “zero” experience he himself lags Palin in demonstrated administrative abilities.

The Democrats argument that McCain could keel over at anytime (”heartbeat away from the presidency”) and leave Palin the Prez doesn’t worry me and while it must be considered I’m not worried about it - I mean they’re interviewing McCain’s MOTHER! Something to be said for family longevity…

I’m surprised they’ve not included in this piece that she’s “only an undergraduate degree” in Journalism (but I have seen it the talking points elsehwhere). As the Ayers issue has demostrated Obama’s totalitarian bent this particular talking point demonstrates the arrogance of not only a Lawyer but also the contempt graduate degree holders have for those without “advanced” education.

But go ahead, knock bachelors degrees, journalism majors and community colleges! That’ll win votes..

Burton also criticized Palin as a vice presidential pick for her support of oil drilling in the Alaskan wilderness and her anti-abortion stance, referring to the 1973 Supreme Court decision that made abortion legal in the United States.

“Governor Palin shares John McCain’s commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush’s failed economic policies. That’s not the change we need, it’s just more of the same,” he said.

Wouldn’t be much of a two party system if both parties agreed on all the issues.. Being pro-life is one of the few issues on which McCain and Obama are different. On ANWR McCain and Obama agree. This fact reflects well on McCain for choosing a VP candidate who has been in open disagreement with him for months, if not years, on this issue.

As for W’s “failed economic policies” where is Congress in that? Considering only Congress, currently under the control of Democrats, can authorize the spending of federal money. Not excusing W on this count though as he’s spent like a drunken sailor. But, 3.3% growth after over a year of main stream media doomsday our economy? I’d say we’re doing all right, not great, can be better - but this isn’t the Carter administration by any stretch of the imagination! Neither is it Reagan, but after all, there wasn’t anywhere for Reagan to take the country but up after Carter literally bottomed us out. But back to Palin….

The choice of Palin was seen as a bold effort by McCain to attract disgruntled Democratic and independent supporters of Senator Hillary Clinton, who was defeated by Obama in the race to be the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee.

Palin, a telegenic conservative, has led the oil-producing northwestern US state since December 2006 and was the first woman and youngest person to hold that state’s top job.

Now to be quite blunt - I am not crazy about a female in either of these leadership roles especially considering if Palin proves herself she is a shoe-in for the top seat nomination in 4 to 8 years. Call me a sexist - its true, but women tend to lead more from the emotional viewpoint, rather than logical, especially under stress. And leading with an emotional reaction to a crisis is what bad policy and decisions are made of.

But…. Palin is more then the mother of 5, a governor, a mayor. She’s a shooter, a hunter, an outdoorsman raised in one of the few remaining frontiers on this earth. From stage to ballroom to fundraiser to firing range to bivouac I think it is safe to say Sarah Palin has earned her stripes.

I think the Obama campaign sees these facts and it scares them as it should. I do not believe they will underestimate this woman and I feel confident that the conservatives who’ve felt left out will not either.
