China Detains 22 in Tainted-Milk Case
Ever wonder what the heck melamine, a chemical used in producing plastics, has to do with foods and why it keeps ending up in our foods? That was my question starting when it was killing pets and more recently when it is killing children from contaminated milk.
After all these scares the NYT article finally reveals that melamine artificially raises the measured protein level of the food it is put into. So low protein dog food + melamine = high(er) protein dog food which is labeled by crud protein content.
Thing is why has it taken from the pet food scandal to this one killing children for China to get a handle on this “underground” melamine “protein powder” enterprise?
