Mother to face charges
Apparently if you make your kid walk to school in Jonesboro, AR they’ll slap you with charges for endangering a minor. The police cite an unsafe neighborhood? Shouldn’t the police do something about the crime they’re so worried about.
Now a 4th grader is what, 10-11 years old? I’ve known kids that age who would be perfectly fine making an almost 5 mile trek like that and I’ve know others I wouldn’t trust to do it alone even a 13-14. But in the end decides this for a kid? Certainly not a bank security guard, police officer or bureaucrat.
Should we watch over our neighbors and protect them? I believe we should but only to a point. Where that point is I don’t know and as I’ve said there’s a large subjective element here. Would it be that the right thing for a concerned person like the security guard to do would have been to escort from a distance? Sadly, even a good Samaritan’s motives are questioned in this day and age he’d probably been arrested as a perv.
