What’s wrong with Background Checks?
Generally speaking I’m not opposed to background checks. Superficially, they just seem like a good idea.
Then I see how the background check process can be manipulated to slow legal access to firearms or potentially completely shut down sales without doing anything more than deciding “hey we’re simply not going to fund that anymore”.
What’s interesting in Colorado is that you have 2 opposing sides stopping the extra funding for equally opposite reasons. The Republican is questioning why the State run check is any better than simply using the Federal NICS which dealers have to do anyway.
The Democrat, on the other hand, is blocking it wanting to not only require citizens of Colorado undergo a useless second background check – but to add a cost on top of the cost of the firearm to process that useless second check.
