I’ve upgraded to the new 1.5 version of WordPress. But I couldn’t hold out long enough to get my theme ported over so you’re all stuck with the default ‘Kubrick’ theme for awhile, maybe a week or two. Unlike the earlier WP templates, though, this isn’t such a bad default theme. That is as […]

Wow 44 comment spams ovenight. That’s about 43 more than I’ve received during the last 2 months. Needless to say a few tweaks to the anti-spam methods were in order… we’ll see how long it takes them to figure it out this time.
Col. Cooper once postulated, paraphrasing, that criminal behavior is caused by a […]

The gallery software has been updated. Comments are now allowed there as well.
As an additional reminder those who try to hotlink images from my site are in for a rude surprise if they do not request permission first. My policy is posted here and is also linked from the gallery footer.

I’d held off upgrading my site from Wordpress 1.0.2 to 1.2.0 for quite awhile. Last week I’d seen the “mingus” release, version 1.2.0 sitting there long enough I upgraded. Today… not even a week later, here comes version 1.2.1. The 1.2.0 upgrade proved so easy that I know what I’m doing during lunch […]

OK, I think the upgrades to the software that runs this site is done. That’d be upgrading from WordPress version 1.0.2 to version 1.2.0.
The look has been tweaked a bit and visitors can now select from alternative site styles.
Navigation has been updated and all top level image galleries are listed in the […]

These little blogger communities of non-geek bloggers need to learn some etiquette quickly. And get rid of that horrid javascript… I tried 3 times to leave the girl a message but the javascript was so consuming that it would take a second for typing to appear and the cursor visably stuttered while trying to […]

Because of excessive bandwidth usage hot linking to my images is not allowed. My website is not configured such that linking to my images, unless they’re being linked to the boards listed at right, will not work but give an warning graphic instead.
If you want to link to my images that’s ok but you […]

And so it has been. Two of the AIM Enfields have been cleaned up and posted in the Enfield Gallery. Specifically the 1942 Lithgow No1 MkIII* and 1944 BSA - Shirley No4 Mk1 are cleaned up and posted.
In addition to cleaning up the AIM Enfields I’ve added 2 more I found from […]

So… it’s midnight and I’m walking out to the patio to feed the felines and coons before hitting the rack and there are all these cicadas everywhere. They’re crawling across the patio, through the flower beds, up the front wall of my house…
Pointman’s Gallery :: 17 Year Cicadas
After my last bug adventure […]

After a couple of weeks lovefest with the WordPress software I’ve found a shortcoming versus Moveable Type. There isn’t a “Preview” to assist reviewing a post before publishing. A minor shortcoming to be sure as no one could drag me back to MT’s perpetual rebuild hell.

My first encounter with Network Solutions was back around 1994. Though they have had more then their share of problems over the years I’ve stuck with their service for my and my customers domain registration needs. In the grand scheme of things a $15-20 per year difference in domain registration fees is very little to […]

Less than a couple of weeks and already I’m reaping the rewards of switching to WordPress. Comments moderation means no more blog spam! There has also been a general reduction in blogspam attempts since switching from Moveable Type. Up until the weekend I switched software I was receiving 15-30 blogspams a week. My switch was […]

Ok, the site is on the new server running new software for both the blog and the photo gallery. There will be some switch over related jitters especially if you’re browsing a bulletin board I’ve linked pictures on. These links will slowly get edited and the image links reestablished.
In the meantime if you’ve […]

It doesn’t really seem to matter what I post, I’ve not setup an appropriate “category” for it in my software so the entries typically get stuck under “Notes” or “Politics”. Well, no more! I’ve worked over the categories to make browsing by category actually work. Not all articles have been reclassified yet but I’ll […]
