End of Daylight Savings Time

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

In case you’re not paying attention this weekend marks the end of DST.  I only mention it for two reasons: We Hoosiers aren’t all that used to this musical clock thing and, if you use your iPhone for your alarm clock (you know who you are) might make sure you have a backup just in case.

Apple’s Jobs wasn’t hero in selfless way

Some people are so stupid I wonder how they manage to tie their shoes in the morning.

Phone Scam

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

Apparently there is a new phone scam going around. I just received a call from a woman who knew all my information (name, address, etc). She said she was from  IT Support something or other (Indian accent but understandable) and was calling to give my PC or laptop an “offline checkup” because their systems were [...]

Union Workers sabotage Communications

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

While their communications union strikes Verizon reports 12 cases of sabotage in 4 states. May IBEW and the Communications Workers of America become synonymous with PATCO. I can dream can’t I?

Goodbye Toshiba

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

An LCD television should last more than 3 years. Our previous Toshiba tube television, an expensive “black stripe” model didn’t live to 9 years.  And a Toshiba DVD player that was almost twice the price of the average player lived all of 18 months. Yet I have a 22 year old Emerson VCR that still [...]

How not to sell software

Friday, March 18th, 2011

I am always receiving calls from various vendors, publishers and manufactures trying to get me to hawk their wares.  Typically these are positive, even enjoyable experiences if a waste of time.

Western Digital acquires Hitachi

Monday, March 7th, 2011

As an opinionated IT professional I find the most recent consolidation of the hard disk sector rather disconcerting.   My current preferences in drives run to Hitachi and Seagate. I tend to avoid Western Digital due to the  high failure rates I’ve experienced even with their enterprise/raid specific hard drives and have so far replaced [...]

Jawbone ICON

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

So my Jabra BT8040 is aging and has most certainly earned it’s keep. But the bud is starting to loosen and cause problems so tonight I grabbed a Jawbone ICON “The Hero” on the way home. The choice was hard and my choice was almost a Jabra BT530 which is essentially the update from the [...]

GoogleTV Repercussions for non-GoogleTV users.

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

So CBS and a few others have made the stupid decision to block their stuff from users of Google TV. Thing is, Google TV is basically a Linux appliance running the Chrome browser and Flash player. Not exactly a lot of differentiation from my primary Mandriva desktop which CBS blocks me from watching their shows [...]

Mobile Device Input

Monday, November 1st, 2010

I’m not sold that the 8pen input is the wave of the future but it is certainly an interesting method and I’ll at least give it a try.
