Apparently California is doing a find job terrorizing their children to the point kids are filing lawsuits trying to force the government to “do something” about Global Warming.

I have to point out that not one single proposal put forth by the Global Warming crowd will have any effect whatsoever – and that’s by their own admission. So what exactly do these “activists” really want other than publicity?

It is bad timing for the kids filing the lawsuit to be exposed as 47th in the nation for scores in science. Some might consider these 2 stories unrelated but they’re very related. There is a reason education has gone to Hades in this country – because an educated population cannot be easily hoodwinked.

“The problem is we don’t know what the climate is doing. We thought we knew 20 years ago. That led to some alarmist books – mine included – because it looked clear-cut, but it hasn’t happened,” Lovelock said.
“The climate is doing its usual tricks. There’s nothing much really happening yet. We were supposed to be halfway toward a frying world now,” he said.
“The world has not warmed up very much since the millennium. Twelve years is a reasonable time… it (the temperature) has stayed almost constant, whereas it should have been rising — carbon dioxide is rising, no question about that,” he added.

Between programmers / technology and the rest of the business that is. PBS is not normally where I look for advise on greasing the inner cogs of the business machine so imagine my surprise to find 2 such pieces. First is 7 Ways to Be the Programmer No One Hates aimed at programmers specifically but also applicable to technologists in general. The second is 7 Ways to Get Programmers to Stop Hating You which applies to anyone who uses development or technology services whether from your own internal service provider or an outside vendor. Much like the rules of marriage these really have to be taken together as a whole though also like a marriage someone has to take the first step. Character and personality changes oh so slowly if at all. But behavior and habit are learned, which also takes time. So if you are one of these audiences remember to be patient…

The proposed Constitutional Carry Reciprocity is a little different than the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act in that it takes into account and makes provisions for reciprocity with “Constitutional Carry” states like Vermont (not exactly of hot bed of rabid conservatism mind you) which requires no special permit for non-Felon citizens to carry a concealed firearm.

In supporting the Constitutional Carry Reciprocity over the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act I went through the usual channels to send Senator Lugar my thoughts and asking him to support this legislation.

Leave it to technology to give me a glimpse into the Lugar office, earlier this morning I received the following email:

Thank you for sharing with me your opposition to the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act, legislation which would require all states to honor concealed-carry permits issued in another state.

I share your concerns about this proposal, and voted against similar legislation during consideration of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010. I believe that state and local officials should be afforded the ability to determine proper concealed-carry laws and regulations, including whether or not to honor permits issued in other states. As the Senate considers this legislation and other proposals that would amend our gun laws, I will have your concerns in mind.

Needless to say this caused me some concern seeing as I’d written the good Senator in support of this type of legislation rather than in opposition to Concealed Carry itself. But I didn’t have to wait long before I understood what was going on as I received this email a bit later:

Due to a miscue in our computer mail system, I believe you may have received an erroneous reply to your recent communication to Senator Lugar regarding your support for concealed carry reciprocity legislation.

I have corrected this mistake in Senator Lugar’s computer records and you should receive the corrected response shortly. I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you, and I encourage you to continue to share your views with Senator Lugar.

Followed a couple of minutes later by

Thank you for sharing with me your support for legislation that would require states to honor concealed carry permits issued by other states. These proposals are currently awaiting further consideration in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Congress has passed similar reciprocity provisions for law enforcement officers. The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2003 was passed into law and signed by President Bush in 2004. This measure exempts qualified current and former law enforcement officers from state laws prohibiting the carrying of concealed firearms. I was a co-sponsor of this legislation.

I share your support for the Second Amendment rights of Americans to lawfully own, carry, and use firearms. As consideration of this legislation moves forward in the Judiciary Committee, I will have your thoughts in mind.

I’m not going to dive too deeply into comparing the statements since I’m expressing my preference between 2 competing Carry Reciprocity pieces of legislation… Suffice it to say I’m not counting on Lugar’s support for either which I’m sure, should they lose this round, soon to be Senator Mourdock will support on the next go round…

We always read and hear the media hyped horror stories about those “vicious pit bulls”. So here’s a more positive story about a Pit Bull who was shot in the head trying to protect owner from a fake delivery guy trying to rob him. Not bad for what is essentially a doggy senior citizen. Buy that dog a t-bone….

It’s been said for some time that if you can’t have a gun have a powerful dog and a pit is certainly that and in a compact package comparatively. I firmly believe the this, have a dog when you can’t get a gun, is in large part behind the demonizing of various preferred family guard breeds over the last several decades… In their turn German Shepherds, Chow-Chow’s, Doberman Pincers, Rottweilers, Pitbulls have all come under direct attack.

On Staten Island I’m sure Kilo was the family’s only option for protection and this very story, a forceful broad daylight home invasion, shows the need is quite real.

Good boy Kilo, good boy…

I can’t tell you how many hours I’ve spent in Bucker, Trap Door, King/Queen and Little Blair, Bee Tree and other caverns on Dick’s property but it has been a life time ago. I only recently became aware that Dick donated the property to the National Speleological Society in 2005 and it is now the Richard Blenz Nature Conservancy. I cannot tell from the site how many of the caverns are covered by the current property but hopefully all of them.

It was a story of the local Girl Scouts working on cleaning up the graffiti that even brought it to my attention. I remember a summer just a few moons back sleeping under the stars in the meadow. Even then it was a BIG/CIG clean up weekend – a bunch of “cavers” crawling around dragging empty sandbags picking up trash, then hauling them out to put into a dumpster donated by the highway department.

That had to have been the early 90′s anyway?
