German G1 Built
This is the German G1 variant of FN-FAL rifle. These were made in the original FN factory (Belgium) for the German Military. The Germans later sold them to the Turks. The Turks did not take particularly good care of them but that's another story. The G1 variant is interesting in that the Germans approached the Belgians in the late 50's in the hope of gaining a manufacturing license from FN as most non-Warsaw Pact nations had. Of course the Belgian's were still a bit miffed at Germany in the late 50's and turned the Germans down flat. Ultimately, the Belgians manufactured approximately 250,000 of these rifles FOR the German Military and Police. About 2000 of the over run were imported into the United States by Browning for the civilian market. The original civilian G1 imports go for $4500 today in good condition. Mine, including the necessary US parts, was $430 to build (not including wood refinishing materials and $80 metal refinishing) US Parts Used: 1) Dan Coonan's Type 1 Receiver, 2-4) FSE Hammer/Trigger/Sear, 5) Schneider Machine charging handle, 6) Semi-only pistol grip. Wood: The wood is the original wood. It was stripped and refinished with Red Mahogany stain and Birchwood Casey's True Oil. The Stg style metal handguards are also the originals. They were cleaned and sanded and painted with low-gloss black hi-temp paint and baked to protect them until proper refinishing.
